BAC Launches Home Revitalization Program In 2021

Updated: Jun 29, 2021

After a shocking home rental experience, founders of BAC are launching a new program to assist low income residents with home inspection and repairs.

Imagine you are moving from out of town after you've paid over a thousand dollars in security deposit due to poor/no credit (which effects mostly low income individuals). Under the impression that you will be walking into a move-in ready home, only to be shocked at what you find when you arrive.

"What we were proposing to do for this landlord was unheard of."

An Eye Opening Experience

On May 21, 2021 one of our Co-founders was scheduled to move into her new home here in Toledo, OH. Since she was relocating and still employed in Columbus, this day, her scheduled move in day, would be the first time viewing her new apartment in person. Up until this point she has only seen photographs and video recordings of another unit in the building because her unit, unit 4, was not ready to view.

As she approached she was impressed with the potential of the neighborhood, and noticed a community garden and school directly across from her new home. That hope was soon to be shattered as she entered into her apartment to retrieve the keys. Later she learned there was a hoarder who had been evicted from the property, and is convinced this is the apartment they were evicted out of.

The apartment was not only filthy, but seemed to be very unsafe and out of code. With dead mice, mold, and untreated wood holding up the back stairs.

Hope Returns

After days of hotel living, back and forth corespondents with the land lord, and her failed attempts at fixing the issues. The entire team decided to take things into our own hands to help our friend and co-founder get moved in.

Sure, you're probably wondering could she have just gotten out of the lease and received a full refund? The short answer is, Yes. However, this seemed like an opportunity, to make a change. If she'd left, there was a high chance that apartment would have been given to another family just as it was and we stand to prevent that.

The Proposal

So our founders proposed full management over the property, rent free for our co-founder, with full upkeep and repairs. BAC plans to completely upgrade the apartment complex that still has 3 other available units, to a not only safe but beautiful place for others to live.

This is only our first property but it will not be our last. So many tenants find themselves in these situations with no one to turn to for help. So they live in unsafe, unclean, and displeasing environments because they cannot afford to do otherwise.

This unsatisfactory experience, birthed the drive to launch our very first program The Home Revitalization Program. We will be continuously sharing the progress of this complex, until it is completed. Here are the original conditions of the unit.
